RylandW (joined 24 May 2023), also known as Ryland Wethersbee and mononymously as Ryland, is a historian, philanthropist and politician from Redmont who is currently serving as the 6th mayor of Aventura.
In addition to being the mayor of Aventura, Wethersbee is also serving in the 29th House of Representatives. A member of the Galactic Empire of Redmont (GER), Wethersbee is outspoken in politics. He previously served in the 25th House of Representatives and was an executive advisor to Presidents UnityMaster and lcn.
Wethersbee opened the Diamond Foundation in mid-2023. In October 2023, Wethersbee founded the Rylands Awards, a routine awards ceremony honoring contributions to the culture of DemocracyCraft. He also founded the Redmont Historical Institute in January 2024 and Ivy University in December 2024. A journalist, he launched the news outlet DNN in November 2024.
Political career
May–October 2024
In May 2024, Wethersbee ran for election to the 25th House of Representatives in its routine election; he ran as an independent and won a seat. He ran a "joint campaign" with ItsBlazeX, whom Wethersbee endorsed. During his term, Wethersbee worked closely with lcn: they authored the Medicare Expansion Resolution together, lcn cosponsored the Universal Education Resolution, and they worked to counter Rexit.
Ryland Wethersbee was openly critical of Bezzergeezer's presidency and was opposed to several of his decisions, including Rexit and changes to Medicare and the healthcare system.
November 2024–present
In 6 November 2024, Wethersbee issued a series of endorsements for the November 2024 congressional elections in #politics. These were of ItsKatto and MathTech for the House of Representatives and GoldBlooded for the Senate; all three won in the elections.[1][2]
On 18 December 2024, Wethersbee was asked by then-President UnityMaster to apply for an executive advisor position, which he did.[3] The following day, he was appointed to the position and also applied to the National Welfare Office,[4] to which he was accepted. In late December, he was appointed to the Presidential Press Corps.
In January 2025, Wethersbee ran for a seat in the House of Representatives as a member of the Galactic Empire of Redmont, alongside four other GER candidates for the House: 2theo, bigpappa140, YeetGlazer and zLost.[5] Wethersbee was elected with five first-preference votes and began serving in the 29th House of Representatives.[5] He authored and proposed the Medicare by Default Act, which changed the Medicare system to provide its services to all citizens of Redmont by default; the act passed in the House 6:0:5 and in the Senate 4:0:0.[6] He also wrote and introduced the Journalistic Transparency Act, which is currently at vote in Congress.[7]
On 2 February, Wethersbee endorsed Yeet_Boy and zLost in the February 2025 Oakridge mayoral election and bigpappa140 and JustaDumpling in its town council election.[8] On 9 February, he declared his candidacy in the February 2025 Aventura mayoral election as an independent with his running mate Sleepii_Sloth.[9] On 13 February, Wethersbee and Sleepii were declared the winners of the election.[9]
February 2025 presidential election
Wethersbee has not issued an endorsement for any candidate in the February 2025 presidential election. He has taken a stance against Vernicia's campaign in the election. He also wished xEndeavour luck in the election and spoke at a 1950minecrafter rally on 6 February 2025.
Other ventures
In mid-2023, Ryland Wethersbee founded the Diamond Foundation, a charity with a focus on new and underprivileged players and community togetherness. In October 2023, he held the first show of the Rylands Awards at his Bondi Beach residence and published the first issue of DMND. In January 2024, he founded the Redmont Historical Institute, a nonprofit dedicated to historical preservation and research. On 27 November 2024 he launched DNN, a news network, and in December 2024, at the Sixth Rylands Awards, announced Ivy University. In December 2024 he also launched DCCatalogue with lcn. On 13 January 2025, Ivy University opened for session.
Archivist and historian
On 1 January 2024, Wethersbee founded the Redmont Historical Institute.
On 13 February 2025, he applied and was accepted to be an archivist at the Department of Education.[10]
Personal life
Wethersbee resides in South Reveille. On 11 July 2023, Wethersbee purchased r051, on which he built a house and named it Ryland Manor. On 13 October 2023, he bought a residential property from FlyingBlocks which he named Casa di Ryland. In July 2024, his Bondi Beach residence was redesigned by LandoPlayzo, a close friend of Wethersbee's; in February 2025, he renamed the property Wethersbee Manor.
He has a cat named Rosa and previously had two dogs, Nuten and Cruz. He is a fan of the architect Epiphone335, with whom he is friends, and of the artist ItsKatto.
Wethersbee is the son of v__d. He has chosen to remain unmarried and childless.
