The Department of Education (DOE) is the department of the executive branch responsible for overseeing the University, the DemocracyCraft Wiki, and trades and professions.
History
The department was initially established as the Department of Education and Commerce (DEC), overseeing both education and cultural heritage alongside economic policy and regulation. In October 2022, following the successful referendum of the Department Reform Act,[1] the DEC was split into the Department of Education and the Department of Commerce (DOC). The reason for the split was, according to then-Speaker of the House xEndeavour: "a historical abandonment of education in Government, partly due to the large portfolio of responsibilities of the DEC and the primacy of economics within that department".[2]
Duties and responsibilities
The Department of Education holds several primary responsibilities:
- Advancing the knowledge, skills, and retention of the people of Redmont through educational initiatives.
- Managing the historical national archive to document and preserve the history of the Commonwealth.
- Promoting and overseeing educational standards, academic institutions, and public educational activities.
- Ensuring that educational policies align with the nation's goals for societal advancement and intellectual growth.
Structure and operations
The Department of Education operates through a structured hierarchy that includes a range of leadership, management and operational roles. The department works closely with other governmental bodies to ensure the smooth functioning of the education system.
Leadership
The following roles are leadership roles obtained upon nomination, by either the president (secretary) or by the secretary of education (deputy secretary).
- Secretary of education: the head of the department, responsible for overall policy direction and the execution of the department's functions
- Deputy secretary of education: supports the secretary in day-to-day operations and policy implementation
Management
- Education manager: oversees the execution of educational policies and programs nationwide
- Archives manager: manages the national archive, ensuring the proper documentation and preservation of Redmont's history
- Tour manager: organizes and leads educational tours related to the Department’s programs and historical resources
Occupations
- Professor: Academics who provide educational instruction and contribute to the development of Redmont’s education system.
- Archivist: Professionals responsible for organizing, maintaining, and preserving historical documents and records.
- Guide: Tour guides responsible for educating the public about Redmont’s history through organized tours and programs.

Budget
The Department of Education's budget is allocated by the government to fund its various educational initiatives, including the development of academic programs, maintenance of historical archives, and operations of public outreach programs. The budget is essential to ensure the sustainability of the national education system and the preservation of Redmont’s cultural heritage. As with other government departments, its budget is reviewed annually and adjusted according to national priorities and economic conditions.
Controversies
While the Department of Education has generally been seen as a positive force in the advancement of Redmont's education and historical preservation, it has faced some controversies over the years. These include debates over the allocation of funding between educational initiatives and historical preservation, as well as disagreements regarding educational reforms. Some critics argue that the department's policies occasionally reflect the political landscape too heavily, which can influence the educational system and historical interpretations.
In June 2024, allegations arose that then-Secretary of Education WackJap had embezzled $50,000 to himself from the department's government account. Following a formal investigation by the Department of Justice, WackJap confessed to having embezzled the money, and abusing his power as secretary to unlawfully appropriate funds from the Redmontian people.[5][6] These allegations resulted in the termination of his tenure as Secretary of Education by President GoldBlooded, and in a subsequent lawsuit, WackJap was found guilty on charges of embezzlement and corruption.[7]
When Multiman155 became president in June 2026, he did not appoint an interim secretary of education to his administration, and instead assigned Vice President Just_Jada to oversee it.[4] This was criticised by Former Secretary AsexualDinosaur.[8]
Commendations
Per the State Commendations Act, the secretary of education may award two executive honours: the Golden Book of Redmont (one recipient) and the Iron Book of Redmont (up to two recipients). These are awarded in the final two weeks preceding a presidential election.
