Brewer

As a Brewer (B), you can craft a variety of brews and elixirs throughout the server. These can be sold throughout the community, helping support the roleplay environment while providing an enjoyable and rewarding experience.

What Brewers Do

Brewers craft elixirs on the server using a combination of ingredients, preparation methods, and time. Creating quality elixirs requires patience and attention to detail.

Once completed, brewers can sell their products through businesses (typically restaurants) or through chestshops.

Setting Up

To craft elixirs in DemocracyCraft, you will need to set up the following:

Book of Brews - The Book of Brews contains all recipes available to brewers. To craft this item, place a book in the centre of a crafting table's grid and surround it with eight empty glass bottles.

You must be a Brewer to view the recipes contained within the book.

Brewing Cauldron - The Brewing Cauldron is used to ferment ingredients into a mash, which is the first step in elixir crafting.

To create one, place a cauldron above a fire source, such as lit netherrack or a campfire, with one block of space between the cauldron and the flame. Then, add a bucket of water to begin brewing.

Each cauldron can brew three elixirs.

Brewing Stand in use

Brewing Stand - Some recipes require distillation. To distill an elixir, place glowstone dust in the top slot of a brewing stand and place the elixir bottles inside.

Barrels - Some recipes require barrel ageing to complete the elixir crafting process.

There are two types of ageing barrels available:

• Small Barrels contain 9 slots and are convenient for storing in homes or shops.
• Large Barrels contain 27 slots and are constructed using various types of wood. They require more space, and each year of ageing takes 20 minutes of real time (one full in-game day).

The following explains how to create each barrel type:

Small Barrel (9 Slots | Always Considered Oak)

1. Using 8 wooden stairs, create a small cylinder as shown below.
2. Attach a sign to the lower right stair with “Barrel” written on the first line.

Large Barrel (27 Slots | Variable Wood Type)

1. Use 1 wooden fence, 16 wooden stairs, and 16 wooden planks to build a barrel shape as shown below. (All blocks must be the same type of wood.)
2. Add a sign with “Barrel” written on the first line directly above the central fence post.

Sealing Table - The Sealing Table finalises an elixir and prevents further modifications through additional ageing or distilling.

It adds brackets around the star quality rating and hides specific details about the elixir, displaying only its quality, barrel ageing status, and distillation information. This provides a consistent appearance for finished brews and allows them to be found through the /find command.

To craft a sealing table, use 4 oak planks and 2 bottles arranged similarly to a smithing table recipe (with bottles replacing the iron components).

Brewing Elixirs

Fermenting

Once you have gathered your ingredients, begin the fermentation process using the Brewing Cauldron.

Ensure you have the correct quantities of each ingredient, then right-click the cauldron while holding the ingredients and wait for the brewing process to complete.

When the elixir is ready, collect it using an empty glass bottle.

Tip: You can use a clock in-game to check how many minutes your brew has been fermenting.

Distillation

Some recipes require distillation.

To begin, place a single piece of glowstone dust in the top slot of a brewing stand, then place the elixir bottles inside.

The distillation process will automatically stop once the elixir reaches the required number of distillation runs.

Ageing

After distillation, check whether the recipe requires ageing.

For example, the Mystic Elixir requires 15 years of ageing in oak wood barrels. As previously mentioned, 1 year of ageing equals 20 minutes of real time, meaning 15 years requires 5 hours.

Place the elixirs inside the ageing barrel by right-clicking the barrel and adding the bottles.

After several minutes, the ageing information will appear when hovering over the bottles.

Once the elixirs have aged for the required duration, they will reach 5-star quality and be ready for sealing.

If any steps (Ingredients, Distillation, or Ageing) are displayed in orange or red, there is an issue with that stage of production, resulting in a lower quality elixir.

The sealed brews' description will have brackets around the quality rating.

Sealing

When your elixirs are ready to package and sell, use the Sealing Table.

You can seal up to 9 elixirs at a time, with each bottle being sealed within a few seconds.

If you close the sealing menu while the process is occurring, the bottles will be ejected.

"I passed the exam! What now?"

After gaining access to a wide variety of brews, you can begin experimenting with different recipes and developing your own products.

Consider working with a business that needs a brewer, starting your own restaurant, or creating a shop that sells your favourite brews through chestshops.

Before experimenting with more advanced recipes, it is recommended to begin with two classic brews: Skunky Elixir and Strange Elixir.

Skunky Elixir

Skunky Elixir is a classic brew that is simple to create.

Begin by placing 5 wheat into a Brewing Cauldron and fermenting it for 7 minutes.

Once complete, collect the elixir and place it into a barrel to age for 3 years.

After the ageing process is complete, you will have a finished Skunky Elixir.

Strange Elixir

Strange Elixir is one of the oldest known brews, with a simple recipe reflecting its history.

Begin by adding eight sugar cane to a Brewing Cauldron and fermenting it for four minutes.

Once complete, collect the elixir and age it in an oak barrel for 3 years.

After ageing is complete, you will have a finished Strange Elixir.

Remember, every brew has its own unique process to achieve the desired result. No two recipes are the same.
