The February 2021 presidential election was the second presidential election in Redmont. Voting in the general election was open from 7 to 10 February 2021, before a runoff finally decided the outcome. The Democratic Reformist Party's ticket of Krix and Hugebob23456 beat out 1950minecrafter and pugbandit, the Socialist Party of the People nominees. After independent candidate _Austin27_ dropped out of the race, his running mate xEndeavour launched his own independent campaign with _Zab_; the pair was eliminated in the runoff.

Background

DemocracyCraft opened to the public on 12 April 2020. From then to October, server co-owner xEndeavour was the unelected president of Redmont. Redmont's first presidential election was held from 7 to 10 October 2020, and saw the election of Westray, whose independent campaign was uncontested.

Candidates

On 12 January, _Austin27_ announced his campaign to the public, with xEndeavour his running mate. The following day, it was reported that the Liberal Reform Party (LRP) had nominated partypig and pugbandit. By this time, it was already known that both President pro tempore Krix and Representative Hugebob23456 wanted to pursue the presidency. With the two both belonging to the Democratic Reformist Party, speculators came to expect a heated conflict between the two. The party's primary was held on 15 January at 11 pm UTC.

Krix won the DRP's primary by seven votes (a lead of 11.4 percentage points). Around the same time, Dusty_3 founded the New Coalition Party (NCP), a descendant of the National Alliance Party (NAP). The NCP soon merged with the LRP and the Conservative Party (TCP). However, despite both the latter parties having endorsed partypig, the NCP leadership did not support the candidacy.

On 18 January, General Secretary of the DRP Intercepticon launched a redo of the primary election. Krix won once again, by an expanded margin, though it was pointed out that new members had joined since. On the 20th, Krix announced that his running mate would be his primary opponent, Hugebob23456. 1950minecrafter's campaign was launched on 25 January.

Following the suspension of the _Austin27_ campaign (see § Controversies), xEndeavour and _Zab_ announced their campaign on 5 February.

Atrium Media began pre-polling on 12 January.

Events

The partypig campaign hosted a rally on its launch date, 13 January. On the 15th, Hugebob23456 held his own at the Icarus Bar, where he discussed his personal history, his time in Congress and his plans, which included introducing universal basic income and firearm checks, as well as lowering taxes and increasing government subsidies. On 24 January, the _Austin27_ campaign rallied, where partypig announced that he would be suspending his campaign and endorsed _Austin27_.

The Department of Public Affairs hosted a vice presidential debate on 29 January and a presidential debate on 6 February.

Controversies

On 1 February, Dusty_3, a staffer for the Krix campaign, filed a lawsuit against _Austin27_, alleging political espionage. Some suspected the lawsuit was politically motivated. Incumbent President Westray, who had earlier renewed his vow to remain neutral, labeled the suit as "divisive", claimed its purpose was to harm _Austin27_'s reputation and called for it to be delayed until after the election. On the 4th, _Austin27_ dropped out of the race, but his running mate, xEndeavour, declared his own campaign. By 5 February, just two days before polls opened, the parties had reached an out-of-court settlement.

Atrium Media reacted to 1950minecrafter's lead over xEndeavour by calling it "one of the most shocking election results seen" in the history of Redmont.
