The politics of Oakridge defines the government, voting patterns, and political beliefs of its residents. Oakridge has historically been dominated by left-wing parties, especially the Galactic Empire of Redmont and in recent times the Workers' Party of Redmont.
Government
Using the structure all official towns in Redmont have, Oakridge uses a mayor–council structure, with an elected mayor leading the council.
History
2025
In the initial days of 2025, an influx of new players joined DemocracyCraft, due to the reporting on the February 2024 coup attempted by the Redmont Nationalist Party. This influx, known as the Trolligarch wave, is credited with shifting Redmont's political landscape to the left, notably establishing the WPR and growing the GER. In the January congressional elections, the GER–WPR coalition achieved a majority in the House of Representatives, and in the February 2025 presidential election, its joint ticket won, with the WPR's 1950minecrafter ascending to the presidency and the GER's Yeet_Boy, then-Mayor of Oakridge, to the vice presidency.
Following the commencement of the 30th Congress, the coalition collapsed, due to GER representatives voting for the centre-right Liberty for Redmont (LfR)'s nominee Bezzergeezer in the speakership election. Despite this collapse, the left won five seats in the 31st House of Representatives — losing its majority, however.
In May, the 10th mayoral election took place.[1] A controversy arose when the Naez mafia ran in-game advertisements offering $10,000 to anyone who voted for the GER candidate zLost. Secretary of Justice juniperfig launched an investigation into the matter, and zLost stated, "Naez told me that his mafia is endorsing me, i didn’t know he meant it like this. Yeah i dont support it at all."[2] On 25 May, in a Royal Eagle News interview, Naezaratheus admitted to election interference and several other crimes.[3] On 24 May, GER member LukeyyyMC_ wrote and published an article in his news network Redmont Newsround, alleging "the WPR have used their numbers to takeover Oakridge and gain every single seat on the council."[4]
Before the election, MSMBS News's Sofia2750 predicted a landslide WPR victory in the election, saying the WPR would "win with 75-80% of the vote, assuming only [the] GER opposes them". "Looking at the recent house and local elections, it has become clear that Oakridge is now WPR controlled."[5] The election was far closer, but still a WPR victory: Roryyy___ defeated zLost 29–25.[6]
Following Roryyy___'s election, Plura72 called the election of he and JunoAndrist a "communist takeover" in the Colt Times and expressed dissatisfaction with the election of WPR candidates "after all [the] GER has done for them".[7]
