The May 2021 Hamilton City mayoral election was the special, second election to choose the next mayor of Hamilton City. In a four-way race of independents, ChAkselsen received the plurality, with 22 of 68 votes (32.35%).

Background

Elected the month prior, Mayor Galavance resigned, triggering a special election.

Candidates

Seven citizens declared their candidacies. Of these, four were ruled eligible by the Department of State: LuckyPerms and Rurge, who declared 12 May, and Taelor and ChAkselsen who declared 15 May. The three candidates who did not appear on the ballot were lawanoesepr (IND), ManagerHell (SPP) and JohnBarboza (IND).

After being declared ineligible to run, JohnBarboza announced that his vote would go to Taelor.

Voting

Because the forums were down temporarily, the voting period was extended by four hours.

Results

In a divided race, ChAkselsen narrowly defeated his closest opponent, Taelor, by three votes (4.41%).

Aftermath

After his election, ChAkselsen stated in a Democracy Daily interview "that he would like the council 'to focus on plans that will increase population, employment and better the terms for general business.'"
