The Senate of Redmont is the upper chamber of Congress, the legislative body of Redmont. The Senate is made up of six elected senators, divided equally into classes "A" and "B", whose terms last four months. The class that is up for election rotates each general election, with elections for Class A occurring in January, May, and September, while those of senators in Class B occur in March, July, and November.
History
The first session of the Senate was the upper house of the 3rd session of Congress,[1] because the House of Representatives was established four months earlier in May and therefore was the only chamber of the 1st and 2nd sessions of Congress.[2][3]
Functions
Members of the Senate vote on bills and resolutions that pass in the House of Representatives, on presidential nominations, and on senatorial motions. Members of the Senate can motion for actions, including hearings of government agencies, private organizations, and individuals; Senators can also interrogate the subject(s) of a hearing.
Leadership
The Senate is led by the president of the Senate, who is filled in for by the Deputy President of the Senate when necessary.
