BananaNova (joined 17 April 2021), known formerly as _Banana_MC, BananaMuffinMC and ItzBananaMuffin, was a Redmontian judge who served as a justice of the Supreme Court from 5 February[1][2] to 30 August 2023.[3]
Career
In December 2021, Chief Justice Westray informed BananaNova that they had been chosen to serve as a magistrate. They later testified that AlexanderLove was their "first legal mentor".[4] They served in this position until June 2022,[5][6] when they became a judge of the Federal Court nominated by President Westray, and served in that capacity until becoming an associate justice of the Supreme Court in February 2023, having been nominated by President Derpy_Bird.[7]
On 30 August, BananaNova submitted their resignation and published a goodbye letter,[3] citing a lack of free time to dedicate to the job. In this letter they also criticised President LilDigiVert: "I was very optimistic for the future of the Judiciary the first time you were elected. I thought that your policies with Aventura and the success that followed would also reach the Courts. I could not have been more wrong. I have lost so much of the respect I held as a result of your appointments. You appointed to the bench Former Chief Justice Krix, who in my opinion should never have been allowed within a mile of such a high office, and indeed ended up, in my opinion, tarnishing the respect of the position. By the second time you were elected, I was dreading what it meant for the Judiciary. And sadly, I was not disappointed this time. You appointed Chief Justice MilkCrack, who I believe has shown a concerning level of incompetence and lack of experience for a Chief Justice. So my words to you, Mr. President, are these: Do better."[4]
In April 2024, SumoMC cited BananaNova as his mentor in his confirmation hearing.[8] In his July 2024 resignation, Dartanman thanked BananaNova for being "the only Structuralist to ever be on the Supreme Court besides [him]self".[9]
Accolades
At the first Redmont Bar Association awards ceremony, BananaNova was nominated for the Best Former Judicial Officer Award,[10] which went to Dartanman.[11]
Personal life
BananaNova filed a lawsuit against Ugoslawia on 29 August 2023, alleging the defendant "offered a deal on iron, proceeded to try and kill me instead of selling the iron after I paid, and then defamed my name in global chat." Judge Aladeen22 ruled in the favor of the plaintiff and was awarded $1,000.[12]
They resided at av-r016 in Aventura.[13]
