The Bar Association of Redmont (BAR), formerly known as the Redmont Bar Association (RBA), is a government entity separate from any branch.[1] The BAR Council manages the legal profession, ensures legal compliance, and may disbar members.[2][3]
History
In 2020, the DC Bar Association was formed by the Legal Board Act.[4] It was established as a board responsible for debating legal policy, advising Congress on legal policy, making sure lawyers are competent, and managing Public Defenders.[5] The DC Bar Association also elected a four member council of its members.[5] The original Council consisted of, Magills0819, TpersonH, LilNickiVert, and with Drew_Hall being the Chair.[citation needed]
In 2021, the DC Bar Association was renamed to the Redmont Bar Association by the Modern Legal Board Act.[6]
In 2022, the Redmont Bar Association was disbanded by the Even Moderner Legal Board Act[7]
In 2023, the Redmont Bar Association was established again by the Super Modern Legal Board Act[8] It was charged with advising the government on advising the government on regulating the legal profession, providing legal resources to lawyers, making sure lawyers practice law ethically, and disbarring those who don't act ethically.[4] The Super Modern Legal Board Act was later repealed and the Redmont Bar Association abolished by the Legal Reform Act in 2024.[9]
In 2026, Representative ToadKing proposed the reintroduction of the RBA, stating "Establishing a professional association for lawyers encourages cooperation, professional development, and the progress of legal standards,” and "The current “BAR”, established under Executive Order 37/25, is ill-equipped to facilitate the duties for which it was created.”[10] The bill then passed the House of Representatives and Senate and received assent from President Technofied.[11]
The Department of State held elections shortly afterwards, resulting in the founding Council being elected. The founding Council consisted of Culls, AsexualDinosaur, TheSnowGuardian, Anthony_org, with Dr_Eksplosive being the Chairperson of the RBA.[12][13]
Around a month later the BAR Act was proposed by Representative juniperfig, passed, and assented to by President Multiman155.[14][15] The act renamed the Redmont Bar Association to the Bar Association of Redmont.[16]
Governance
The BAR is governed by a Council of 5 members, one of which is the Chairperson of the BAR.[17] The Council votes on motions proposed by Councilors, which may create and amend regulations on the legal profession, investigate or sanction lawyers, or change internal BAR procedures.[2]
The BAR Chairperson is the head of the BAR, charged with presiding over votes on BAR votes, acting as the spokesperson of the BAR, and casting the tie-breaking vote during tied council votes.[17] By a unanimous vote of all councillors other than the chairperson, the chair may be vacated.[17]
Members of Congress, Magistrates, Judges, Justices, the President, Vice president, and Attorney General may not serve on the BAR Council.[17]
Membership
Membership into the BAR is granted automatically to all solicitors, barristers, and attorneys.[18] Only members of the BAR may vote in BAR Council elections.[19]
Powers
The BAR has the following powers, as shown in the “Bar Association of Redmont Act”:
- Manage the legal profession and exams (with assistance from the Department of Education).
- Providing training, guides, or other assistance to practicing members.
The Council has the following powers, as shown in the “Bar Association of Redmont Act”:
- Create, amend, and repeal rules and guidelines on legal ethics, professionalism, and conduct;
- Investigate members of the RBA for breaches of ethical, professional, or legal standards.
- Impose sanctions on members of the RBA in accordance with Part V;
- Set the internal procedures of the RBA;
- Exercise all other powers necessary or incidental to the proper functioning of the RBA.
