For the purpose of this document, any case of ‘Warrant’ should be interpreted as ‘Warrant or Court Order’. In any case in which a warrant is needed, players should '''screenshot the warrant'''. Most staff members are unable to access warrant links and as such the full warrant page should be submitted via screenshot.

== Scope and Purpose ==
The Staff Team and Judiciary shall cooperate in good faith to facilitate investigations, proceedings, and the administration of justice while preserving player privacy and server integrity.
Warrants must be specific. Anything that would need a time to look up should have a time. All relevant information you can offer the staff team to help is requested.

Things that will get you denied:
== Court Orders ==
Staff may act upon:

* “Seize/search everything [player] has”. We have no way of doing this.
* warrants;
* “Please seize everything this user has”
* subpoenas;
* Weeks worth of logs / Thousands of Logs (assuming it’s not extremely specific in scope)
* motions to compel;
* Anything without a clear purpose, intent or legitimate roleplay reason to know.
* judicial orders; and
* other lawful orders issued by a Court.

Court orders should identify, where applicable:
Regarded as completely private. Users may share and consent for staff to retrieve the logs, but there is no staff remedy if no party is willing to consent.

Knowing of the existence (example, Angryhamdog shares an image of him and Technofied conspiring to overthrow the government) does not entitle individuals to gain access without consent.
* players involved;
* locations;
* relevant dates and times;
* items sought;
* purpose of the request.

Individuals can subpoena or request witness testimony in such cases. '''Intimidation for consent will not be tolerated.'''
Staff may deny or seek clarification regarding requests that:

== Semi-Private Messages (Local, Murmur, Ticket, Affiliated Server) ==
* are overly broad;
Regarded as semi-private. With actual proof (time, people involved, basic content, reasonable suspicion), warrants may be requested without consent. With consent, the staff team can verify messages.
* lack a legitimate roleplay purpose;
* require unreasonable staff resources;
* constitute a fishing expedition;
* seek information prohibited under this Policy.

Note that government ticket transcripts are mailed to the ticket opener as well as available via the ticketbot dashboard for a period of up to two bots.
== Staff Privilege ==
Staff privilege recognises the operational independence of the Staff Team from the Judiciary.

Affiliated Servers are subject to warrant requests as a normal part of roleplay.
Staff shall not be penalised by a Court for actions performed in an official Staff capacity.

Confirmation and warrants should not be used to ‘just confirm’. Courts should, similar to the Staff Policy on the Homeland Security Plugin, assume they are correct unless there is conflict.
Courts shall not summon individual Staff members.

If parties are contesting as to the validity of the logs, they can confirm (or get a warrant/court order to confirm), and the Staff Team will punish malicious individuals under our impersonation policy.

Logs to search must be specific and targeted.

Specific items (or sets of items) can be requested to be tracked down via logs (or to find additional chests, if applicable).
= Searches and Seizures =
Searches and seizures conducted by Staff require a valid warrant or Court order unless otherwise provided by this Policy.

Areas that may be searched (or seized):
Staff may execute searches of:

* Specific properties, areas or chests
* inventories;
* Inventories, Ender Chests, Supporter Chests
* ender chests;
* supporter chests;

Individuals may not request “all chests that a user has”. This is simply impractical for the staff team to fulfill.
Staff will auto-deny unspecific or unreasonable requests such as conducting unrestricted searches of all assets, properties, inventories, or storage belonging to a player.

All such searches require a warrant (and purpose in pursuing a criminal. The Staff Team will not be searching chests because a player misplaced an item).

  • compromise server security;
  • reveal confidential moderation information;
