DemocracyCraft Wiki:Category Policy

For a category of articles to qualify for use within the wiki, it needs to qualify under the following guidelines:

1. it must group together more than two articles or categories into a bundle (or be expected to do so in the near future)
2. it has to be a generalised topic or concept that does not copy an existing article (i.e. categories that are just names of people or organisations)
3. it must not be orphaned or be a root category
4. if it is a root category it must represent an abstract concept like "Politics", "Business", "Government" etc.
5. it has to follow the style guide

Categories that fail to meet these criteria should be merged into existing categories or removed from their associated wiki pages, and consequently marked for deletion.

Style Guide

The name of a category may only contain spaces, numbers, apostrophes and standard ISO latin characters (a-z). Capitalisation may be used where needed and concepts that can be counted, such as Political parties and Newspapers, should be phrased using the plural form.

A category name should not exceed the necessary amount of words needed to express the idea and reflect a neutral concept.

• Bad: Trustworthy Newspapers

Historical categories

The wiki is among other things intended to provide a historical record for Redmont and its notable events. As such there are various categories that group together organisations, concepts and events by year. These should be created conservatively and largely follow the rule of "extending what's already been done".

Historical categories should be exclusively used for years and contain the denoted events that happened during that specific year. If a person or organisation was active for multiple years, they may have multiple historical categories attached to their respective pages.

• 2026 in politics
• 2026 political parties
• 2026 newspapers
• Newspapers established in 2026

Organisational member categories

Sometimes there is a need to group together people that are employed or have held positions in a given notable organisation. These can be denoted using a "members" subcategory extending an existing root category.

These should be used conservatively and only for notable governmental or political organisations. This explicitly excludes businesses and news organisations, as employment by a private organisation is generally not considered sufficiently notable to warrant categorisation. Instead, such employment should simply be mentioned within the person's article.

Overview of root categories

It is important to view the wiki as being organised as a tree with various root categories from which all pages can be derived. These help separate the wiki into differentiable parts and makes navigation for both categories and the contained wiki pages easier.

Before deciding where to add a new category or if there even should be a new category for a specific concept, please keep the following root categories in mind and expand them appropriately:

• Government, grouping together the Executive, Legislature and Judiciary
• Economy, grouping together everything related to business, finance and employment
• Politics, grouping together everything regarding politicians, elections and political parties
• Culture, grouping together social events, cultural practises and general Redmont society
• History, grouping together the events for each year and recording the entire history of Redmont
• Crime, grouping together the pages related to crimes you can commit within Redmont
• Tips and tricks, grouping together all pages which explain game concepts
• Features, grouping together all pages related to in-game features provided by the server
• Staff, grouping together all pages intended for staff (Don't mess with these!)
