The House of Representatives of Redmont (HOR), often referred to simply as the House, is the lower chamber of Congress, which proposes and votes on bills before they move to the upper chamber, the Senate.
Structure
The House of Representatives is composed of 11 representatives elected using single transferable vote (STV), terms last one session (two months) each.[1] unless they lose the seat by committing dereliction or resignation. General elections for the House are held every 2 months, even if a snap election is called, general elections will still be held on the regular schedule.[2]
History
The first session of the House began on 10 May 2020.[3] Because the Senate was not yet founded,[4] the House was the sole chamber of Congress; this ran true for the 2nd Congress as well.[5]
Responsibilities
The House is responsible for creating and introducing legislation to Congress, beginning the impeachment process on individuals, starting the process of overturning a Presidential veto, managing its own affairs, and introducing resolutions.[1]
Leadership
Each session, representatives elect one representative to serve as the speaker of the House, who leads the chamber, and then a deputy speaker of the House, who acts on behalf of the speaker when they are unavailable.
