DOC Legal Authorities

Acts of Congress

  1. Redmont Corporate Entities Act (RCEA) - This act goes over much of what you'll need to know in your day-to-day work in the Department. It defines legal entity forms, the process for registering a legal entity, default protections for shareholders, enforcement and remedy abilities given to the Department, and much more. Start here, take notes.
  2. Redmont Commerce and Finance Act (RCFA) - This act lays the foundation for financial institutions, markets, reporting requirements, regulated activities, and enforcement actions we are empowered to take. Also defines Financial Institution taxation.
  3. Bankruptcy Act - This provides a framework for handling insolvency in Redmont, defining bankruptcy, valuation, trustees, priority of claims, and the role of the Department.
  4. Property Lien Act- This act allows lenders to secure their loans by filing a lien with the Department. A lien allows a lender access to a secured asset when a customer defaults on their loan. This process typically does not involve the courts, which allows it to be much faster than traditional collateral recovery.
  5. Taxation Act- Defines all forms of taxation, but the most relevant for the Department is pruning.
  6. Privacy Act - Has some important information about our obligations, and the obligations of the institutions we regulate, to protect personal and private information.
  7. Redmont Family Law Act (RFLA) - The only real relevant provisions are the naming requirements imposed to prohibit companies from bearing a family's name without that family consenting.
  8. Gambling Regulation Act - Defines gambling institutions, games of chance vs games of skill, requires odds to be displayed on all machines, and gives the Department authority over gambling regulations. Note that advertising a gambling service is against server rules, not the law.
  9. Grant Guideline Act - Defines how we issue grants and adds "Grant Fraud" as an indictable offense. May be useful for economists from time to time, but is generally quite vague.
  10. Conflict of Interest Standards Act- It is important to understand and closely follow guidelines to avoid and disclose conflicts of interest that may arise during your work with the Department. This act was amended by the Conflict of Interest Reform Act to allow a player to simultaneously hold roles that may present conflicts of interest, provided that the appropriate safeguards are put in place.
  11. Federal Reserve Act- Creates the Federal Reserve Bank and defines the Secretary's role as an ex officio member.
  12. Borrowing Authority Act- Useful information on the Secretary's role in borrowing on behalf of the government.
  13. Text Me Back Act- This is what happens when we don't respond to someone's application in time!
