DemocracyCraft prides itself on creating an inclusive environment where players and Staff members alike have fair and equal opportunities in all aspects of the server, both within the Staff Team and as a wider part of the community. Above all, we owe it to our community to put our best foot forward in creating a level playing field for all our community reasons. In the normal course of server activities, Staff members may have the opportunity to advance their own personal interests.

Any Staff member who acts outside of our community's best interest or uses their knowledge or position within DemocracyCraft to procure personal benefits are in violation of this policy. Failure to comply with this policy may result in your dismissal as a Staff member, and further disciplinary action as deemed appropriate.

Scope

This Conflict of Interest policy applies to all DemocracyCraft staff members, either volunteering as frontend or backend Staff. All of these parties are expected to follow all provisions of this policy where it applies to them.

Examples

A conflict of interest may take many forms that include, but are not limited to:

  • Processing warrants that you filed as a member of the Department of Homeland Security using Staff abilities.
  • Involving yourself in issuing disciplinary action to players where your actions have contributed.
  • Creating or modifying regions where-in you are the intended or existing landlord.
  • Issuing disciplinary action to players that you directly have had perceived animosity with.
  • Using process-specific knowledge gained during your tenure as a Staff member to render direct or indirect gain to a competing server.
  • Acting in ways that can compromise DemocracyCraft's compliance with Mojang's EULA (e.g. reference to illicit substances, or other EULA-prohibited items).

Procedure

Duty to Disclose

All Staff members are required to disclose any known, potential, or suspected conflicts of interest to their private Discord staff channels as said Staff members become aware of them. Failure to disclose potential or actual conflicts could lead to a range of disciplinary actions up to and including termination.

Dealing with conflicts of interest

When a possible conflict of interest becomes known or is suspected, the Staff member's mentor and/or server administration will collect all of the relevant information and may question any involved parties. If server administration determines that a conflict of interest exists or is likely to arise, steps will be taken to resolve the situation. If it is determined that no conflict exists, the inquiry may be documented, but no further action will be taken.

  • It is important to note at this stage, while the potential for a conflict of interest is being assessed you will not be punished unless you pose an immediate threat to the server.
  • Any inquiry that results in no inquiry, will not impede your advancement or standing as a Staff member, unless it is found the subjected Staff member attempted to conceal, obstruct or otherwise pose any behaviours deemed uncooperative to the inquiry.

Disciplinary action

All conflicts of interest will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis to determine the appropriate course of action. A review may still result in no actions being taken, or may result in disciplinary action.

DemocracyCraft has full discretion to deem what disciplinary action is both fitting and necessary, including potential suspension and/or termination.

READ ME

This policy as aforementioned is to ensure our players and Staff have fair and equal opportunities in all aspects of the server. Our Dealing with conflicts of interest section serves as a mechanism for us to ensure this objective is being met, and provided you are cooperative and otherwise do not interfere with this process, we seek to resolve issues at the lowest level first, always.

What do we mean by this?

Coaching and guidance will be offered to you first and foremost where it can be, unless we believe your conflict poses an egregious error of judgement, or risks the welfare of the server, you will get told how to rectify the situation.
