Revision as of 00:59, 26 June 2025 by CaseyLeFaye (talk | contribs) (made some an edit in Functions add resolutions, updated the first paragraph to accurately describe how terms and elections work, and capitalized Senator since that is how it is in the Constitution)
The Capitol serves as the physical location of both the Senate and the House of Representatives.

The Senate is the upper chamber of Congress, the legislative body of Redmont. It consists of six citizens referred to as Senators, divided equally into classes "A" and "B", whose terms last four months. The class that is up for election rotates each general Congressional election, with elections for Class A occurring in January, May, and September, while those of Senators in Class B occur in March, July, and November.

History

The first Senate election was called on 1 September 2020. The Senate was established in September 2020, serving in the 3rd Congress, while the House of Representatives began in May 2020 and served as the sole chamber of the 1st and 2nd congresses.

Functions

Members of the Senate vote on bills and resolutions that pass in the House of Representatives, on presidential nominations, and on senatorial motions. Members of the Senate can motion for actions, including hearings of government agencies, private organizations, and individuals; Senators can also interrogate the subject(s) of a hearing.

Leadership

The Senate is led by the president of the Senate, who is filled in for by the Deputy President of the Senate when necessary.
