The Federal Reserve Bank is governed by a board of 5 members, 4 of those being chosen by Congress (called "Sitting Board Members"), and 1 being the secretary of the Department of Commerce (DOC), ex officio.
Prior to the signing of the Federal Reserve Act of 2025 on 10 August 2025, board members were nominated by the president and confirmed by the Senate.
