It is a requirement that any Discord servers advertised on DemocracyCraft must only be viewable and accessible to verified players.

To have your Discord server affiliated with DC, you must have setup a role designated to only verified players. This role must be a prerequisite to view any channel. Without the role, Discord users on your affiliated Discord server should not be able to see ANY Discord channels.

❓ Why

Staff have observed an increasing influx of punished players using alternative accounts to circumvent their punishment, and spam accounts targeting Discord servers.

In light of this, we're posing this requirement to protect players.

How does this impact my privacy

The Server bot only needs `Manage Roles` permission.

You do NOT have to grant it Administrator.

You can choose to prevent the bot from reading all channels, etc as you see fit. As long as it has `Manage Roles`.

What if I do not wish to verify my users this way

Unfortunately, you will not be able to advertise your Discord server in-game or on our main Discord server.

Soliciting players to join privately may result in disciplinary action. This is context dependent. e.g. ✅ DMing a few friends in game that you consider close to invite them to a Discord server is permitted ❌ DMing players en mass with an invite to a Discord server is prohibited

We will always reach out first to let you know and try to solve things at the lowest level before any sort of punishment.

This does not apply to private Discord servers!

We reserve discretion in determining whether your server is considered exempt, but generally if you host a Discord server and invite only select members of the community that you know - that's completely ok!

What isn't ok is masquerading as a small private server when you're actually setting up a Discord server for an in-game business.

🕵️ How do I setup my Discord server?

  1. Click the Server bot on Discord to view its profile, from here click `Add App` and invite the bot. You can choose not to give it `Administrator`, remember, the bot only needs `Manage Roles`. You can put the bot's role to the bottom of your role list, as long as its above the verified role.
  2. Create a role on your Discord server for verified players (i.e. Citizen, Verified Player)
  3. Run `/verification set-role` and @ the role of your choice

From here, the bot will automatically sync and add players to the role.

  • NOTE: Some Discord servers are cross-server, have both DC and SC players - these servers do not need to implement verification at this time.
