Censures are a way that the Congress, or solely the House or Senate, can express formal disapproval.

History

Censures were first formally established in the first Congressional Process on 1 May 2020. During this time, they could only be used to censure a representative.[1]

With the ratification of the Constitutional Repair Act II on 3 October 2020 (EST), the power to censure was added in the constitution for the Congress. They could censure any person or group.[2]

On 19 June 2023, the Censure Limitation Revamped Act or the CLR Act was signed into law which limited the ability to censure, only allowing one individual to be censured per motion.[3] However, entities such as government departments could still be censured.[4] This change was made in response to the actions of Representative zLost, who, on 30 April 2023, motioned to censure every other representative in Congress. Since the other representatives were ineligible to vote on the motion, it was passed.[5]

On 7 March 2025, the Commonwealth of Redmont Constitution Act was ratified, and removed constitutional provisions for censure.[6]

The process for a censure is currently defined within the Legislative Standards Act.
