The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is the department of the executive branch tasked with enforcing Redmont's laws, maintaining criminal records, protecting citizens of the Commonwealth and defending the nation from threats. The Department of Homeland Security plays an important role in the Commonwealth as they are responsible for maintaning law and order through the Redmont Police Department, ensuring criminals get locked up through Recalvatraz Prison, and ensuring the security of the Commonwealth through the Armed Forces of the Commonwealth of Redmont (AFCR).

History
The department originally started off as the Department of Justice, which was tasked with enforcing the laws of the Commonwealth, maintaining order, and executing court orders. The department took over the Homeland Security moniker following the passing of the Department Modernisation Act Referendum on the 1st of May 2024[2], with the former name given to by then Department of Legal Affairs.
Prior to the opening of Recalvatraz, the department maintained a jail that was located south of Oakridge. The former jail has since been demolished following the completion and opening of Recalvatraz[3].
Chain of Command
The Department of Homeland Security operates through a chain of command that ranges from leadership roles to operational roles. The department works closely with other governmental bodies, in particular the Department of Justice and the Judiciary, to ensure the smooth functioning of its internal policies.

The following roles are leadership roles that are either obtained by a Presidential nomination (Secretary) or appointed by the secretary (Deputy Secretary).
- Secretary of Homeland Security: The head of the department, responsible for overall policy direction and execution of the department's functions.
- Deputy secretary of Homeland Security: Supports the Secretary in day-to-day operations and policy implementation.
