Anville began as a farm owned by norselyqueer, who had expressed interest in growing the farm as a town. The idea of establishing Anville as a town was pitched in the [[Workers' Party of Redmont]] Discord server, and was well-received; the idea garnered particular enthusiasm from [[Goldendude15]] and [[AETHER1AN]].<ref name=":1" />

[[1950minecrafter]] of the [[Workers' Party of Redmont]] received 62 out of 156 (39.7%) of the first-choice votes, with 46 (29.5%) going to xEndeavour, 44 (28.2%) going to Vernicia, and 4 (2.6%) going to TheMusica, who was summarily eliminated. Their votes were distributed to xEndeavour (3) and 1950minecrafter (1), leaving Vernicia with the least number of votes, being eliminated and having her votes distributed. After distribution, the final count was 75 for xEndeavour and 81 for 1950minecrafter, leading 1950 to cross the threshold of 79 votes, and becoming the president-elect of Redmont. He succeeded President [[lcn]], and tapped Yeet_Boy to continue serving as vice president.

== Background ==
In the initial days of 2025, a wave of new players from the [[Trolligarch wave]] arrived in Redmont. These players, who were mostly left-leaning in numbers, grew left-wing parties such as the WPR and GER to a higher extent than centrist or right-wing parties like the Redmont Reform Party or the Patriotic Coalition of Redmont. These players heavily influenced the [[29th Congress#Elections|January congressional elections]].

During the elected 29th Congress, the GER and WPR allied to form the GER–WPR coalition, solidifying a working majority in the [[House of Representatives]]. In mid-January, the House of Representatives passed a motion to incapacitate President [[UnityMaster]]. Following Senate approval, UnityMaster was incapacitated and Vice President lcn ascended to the presidency and President of the Senate Yeet_Boy replaced him as vice president.

'''1950minecrafter''' (joined 13 April 2020), also known as simply '''1950''', is a Redmontian politician who is currently serving as the 20th [[List of presidents|president of Redmont]]. 1950 was the first player to have joined DemocracyCraft after its release, and became a significant political figure on the server for years after, founding the first political party in Redmont to moderate success, and championing many of the first laws that guide the server today. On May 5th 2020, 1950 applied for the creation of his political party, the [[Socialist Party of the People|Socialist Party of the People (SPP)]]. It took part in the 1st Congressional Election, securing a majority of 4 seats out of 7 in [[Congress]]. 1950 ran, and became Redmont’s second [[Speaker of the House]] following the resignation of the first Speaker, superpacman04. 1950 authored bills such as the [https://www.democracycraft.net/threads/conspiracy-act.310/ Conspiracy Act] and the [https://www.democracycraft.net/threads/public-indecency-act.431/ Public Indecency Act].<ref>https://www.democracycraft.net/threads/conspiracy-act.310/#post-738</ref><ref>https://www.democracycraft.net/threads/public-indecency-act.431/#post-1088</ref>

As the 2nd congressional election drew near, a new party was on the rise: the [[Political parties#Democratic Reformist Party|Democratic Reformist Party (DRP)]]. They grew to a membership greater than the SPP or [[Political parties#National Alliance Party|National Alliance Party (NAP)]], and threatened to upset the two-party status quo. As such, 1950 and Dusty_3 agreed to work in coalition, by having their members vote for candidates from both of their parties. Due to the nature of elections at the time, the vote tally throughout the voting period was live, incentivising parties to campaign for more votes if they were losing. The NAP and DRP both partook in this, however, the SPP did not, resulting in the party winning no seats in the next Congress, and a fall in prominence. Congress was therefore split between the NAP and DRP, with the SPP left to rethink their future courses of action.

=== Break from DC and Subsequent Ban ===

==== Dissatisfaction with DC Politics ====
By the end of June 2020, after [[Krix]] formed the [[Democratic Reformist Party]], toxicity in politics had begun to rise. This annoyed 1950, but he remained a member of the server for at least a month afterwards.<ref name="iv"/>

In July of 2020, following his unsuccessful reelection bid and the overall defeat of the SPP, losing all of their seats in the House and Senate, 1950 felt he had little to incentivise him to be active on the server, other than maintaining his apartment company, 'MAO S.A'. He therefore decided to take a break from the server. This was meant only to be for a few weeks, with the intention to come back once toxicity in DC politics had subsided.<ref name="iv"/>

==== The New Server ====
A few days after he announced that he was taking a break, 1950 was approached by some other players who had also decided to take a break, asking him to join another City RP server as a builder. This server was run by an individual only remembered today by his initials 'TBI'.<ref name="iv"/> 1950 was initially apprehensive due to the fact that he wanted to take a break from the City RP genre as a whole, but eventually relented, with the stipulation that he would only be hired as a builder for the server.<ref name="iv"/>

After a few days as a builder, 1950 was offered the position of moderator on the new server. There was a rule on DemocracyCraft at the time known as 'non-compete', stating that members of DC could not be Staff or Administrators on servers that competed with DC, however, 1950 felt as if he was not in breach of this rule, due to the fact that he was simply a moderator.<ref name="iv"/>

===== Release Day and Aftermath =====
On the day of the new server's launch, a few members of the DC community, including owners [[Technofied]] and [[xEndeavour]] joined the new server to have a look at their competition.<ref name="iv"/> On the same day as the launch, the new server's map was deleted and the server was corrupted under mysterious circumstances. The reason for this has never been determined, however, many theories, including foul play, have been shared.<ref name="iv"/> After the failed release, TBI was never heard from again and could not be consulted on the true reason for the new server's demise.<ref name="iv"/>

The following day, 1950 was informed that he had been banned due to being in breach of the 'non-compete' rule.<ref name="iv"/> To this day, 1950 insists that he was simply a moderator, therefore not in breach of the rules and that the ban was "wrongly and unjustly applied on [him]".<ref name="iv"/> This ban took effect on the 24th of July, 2020.

After the ban, 1950 made the decision to retire from DC altogether.<ref name="iv"/>

== SPP After 1950 ==
=== September 2020 Congressional Elections ===
Shortly after 1950’s ban on July 30, The_MarxSisters was elected as the party's next Chair, promising reforms to the party in preparation for the September congressional election. Their performance disappointed many in the party, winning only one seat, and falling a few votes shy of winning two or three seats.

Shortly after this election, two special elections were held in Congress due to resignations. The SPP ran kevv as their candidate in the first special election, achieving 9 votes, far less than the DRP candidate, ronsampaul, who achieved 18. The SPP did not field a candidate for the second special election. In September of the same year, Senate elections were introduced, for which the SPP fielded _37__ as their candidate. They won 21 votes, just shy of the 22 needed to tie with the winner of the third seat.

=== The Red Army ===

Shortly before these elections on August 20th, the militant Red Army was incorporated as a wing of the SPP. The Red Army previously launched an attack against the DC Capitol, and had a standoff with the police. Many players disliked the Red Army for these actions, and the SPP, in their decision to tie themselves to the organization, received negative attention.

== Return to DC ==
During September and October of 2020, 1950 received a number of messages from owner [[xEndeavour|End]] and player Dusty_3 asking him to return to the server.<ref name="iv"/> On October the 23rd, 1950 lodged an appeal against his ban. The DC competitor server was no longer extant, and staff had a change of heart about the players they banned. A day later, it was accepted.

The SPP immediately held a leadership election due to growing dissatisfaction with The_MarxSisters and the creation of the Red Army. 1950 was chosen as the new Chair on November 6, and immediately began work on the ongoing November Congressional elections. The party fared better, with candidates 1950 and JoanM999 securing 2 of the 7 available [[House of Representatives|House] seats. This began a trend of the SPP performing better when 1950 was on the ballot and directly involved. The following election in January saw the House expanded from 7 to 9 seats, and the SPP again won 2 seats, with candidates 1950 and Red Army leader Olefante being elected. The party also fielded a candidate for the Senate, _37__, who lost with only 19 votes in his favour.

=== First and Second Presidential Runs ===

On January 26, 2021, 1950 announced his candidacy for President with running mate Pugbandit. His main competition was the DRP leader [[Krix]] and his running mate hugebob23456. The DRP was at one of its most successful points, and they were the favourite to win. A third contender was an independent candidate, Austin27, with running mate xEndeavour. Austin27 eventually dropped out, with xEndeavour running with Zab as his running mate.

In a surprise result, no candidate reached a majority, with Krix receiving the most votes at 94 and 48.2% of the total vote. 1950 was second, with 64 votes, and xEndeavour was third with 37. This prompted a runoff between Krix and 1950, in which Krix received 108 votes to 1950’s 89. Krix became Redmont’s 3rd President, and 1950 continued his work in the House.

1950 decided to run alongside running mate, byeSprite, in the next presidential election in June of 2021, winning 69 votes and proceeded to a runoff against Austin27, who won 98 votes in the first round. 1950 was again thwarted in a runoff, winning 70 votes to Austin27’s 95.

=== Resignation from Party Chairmanship ===
The SPP continued to participate in congressional elections, securing 2 to 3 seats each time. 1950 received modest support each time, with enough personal votes to elect another member of the party. However, the party failed to significantly grow to any significant prominence. In October 2021, 1950 chose not to run in the party’s leadership election, and Aladeen became the new Chair. The party received a surprise new member in Krix, who was the sole SPP candidate to win a seat in the [[Congress 2021#NOVEMBER|November 2021 House election]].

=== Second Departure from DC ===
1950 stepped back from the public eye at this point, and his activity declined until leaving the server altogether. The SPP declined further until its eventual dissolution through a merger with the [[Neodemocratic Party of Redmont|Neodemocratic Party]] (later the Democratic Party) on February 20, 2022. Five months later, on July 25, 2022, former SPP member xeu100 announced a return of the party, and outlined a three-phase plan, however, this was the last update in the party’s Discord server.

On the 11th of February, 2025, the third-place candidate, Vernicia, filed a lawsuit in the Supreme Court against the Commonwealth (and its agent, the Department of State), claiming that "[t]he election was botched", and that the results of the election did "not represent the will of the people", due to the claim that the proper election format had not taken place. The Department of State was also ordered to begin a runoff election between 1950 and End, as if the two-round system had been used, and only the two highest-rated candidates remained.

The idea of DemocracyCraft was a thought that came to End while playing and staffing other city RP servers. He saw a lot of potential with the servers he played on and tried to advance them, but there was always something holding them back - the owners. In his experience, progressive ideas tended to be turned down; absent and disengaged owners seemed to be overly set in their ways and reluctant to true change.

End gained a desire to create a more politically focused Minecraft City RP server.

=== Pre-release Alpha ===
On the 8th of March 2020, during a 14-day COVID lockdown, End founded the server with friend, [[Jaynormous]] (Jay).

Initially, they were the only two staff members, with Jay handling the technical side of the server, and End managing the building and marketing. Jay had owned servers previously, however, End had no experience with server ownership whatsoever. There was a lot of optimism, but always a shadow of doubt; at that time, End and Jay could never have imagined that the server would grow to outcompete its competitors in only 8 months.

The duo had no concrete plan as to when the server would be released, instead approaching the server with a "''we’ll just wing it''" attitude.

End lost interest in the project several times, however the COVID restrictions meant that he continued to work on the server to avoid peak boredom. Without the support of the pre-release development team, it is unlikely DemocracyCraft would have ever come to fruition.

=== Open Beta ===
DemocracyCraft opened to the public on the 12th of April 2020, however, remained in Beta up until the 14th of May. As is natural with a Beta, the server went through significant instability, with multiple server crashes daily, poor performance, and multiple host changes.

However, while this was going on, End, in charge of building [[Redmont]], chose a random spot for the City of [[Hamilton]] and commissioned the building of the [[Capitol]]. Hamilton wass loosely based on planned capital cities such as Canberra, Australia and Washington DC, USA. He placed the server spawn at what he considered the intersection of the three most crucial focuses of the server - the Executive, Legislative, and Judiciary branches of Government.

The remainder of the city was built around these three buildings.

When Jaynormous left the server to join another City RP, xEndeavour led the server alone for a period, with assistance from the administration team. In September of 2020, [[Technofied]] (Tech) took up co-ownership of the server to replace Jay. Tech is often regarded as the server’s technical expert while End primarily manages the player base and Staff team.

This symbiotic relationship continues to serve the server well to this day.

The notion of where to focus policy, was a great challenge during End's administration. His Cabinet was extremely fluid, and therefore was normal for Secretaries to rotate every 1-2 months. There was a substantial workload in getting the Government Departments up and running, and many Secretaries had little appetite to put in the work required.

Establishing a stable government was one of End's key policy objectives. This was a crucial step in contributing to the success of the legislative branch, the executive branch, and later the elected Presidency.

He had to work diplomatically with the new assembly, making sure their voice was heard, while still setting precedence and shaping the legislation toward beneficial, server-focused laws that apply to the everyday player.

The moving of Krixmart 12 blocks south of its original position was a decision of great controversy. This relocation was done to realign the back of spawn to the entrance of the [[Central Business District]] (CBD), to make it more accessible to the public and to increase competition near spawn.

When the owner of the store, Krix, refused, End blocked the back entrance to spawn to stop Krix from benefitting from players transiting through his store to the CBD. After public pressure to reopen the entrance, a path was built down the side of spawn to direct players to the alleyway and away from walk-through stores.

When negotiations fell through, End referred the matter to Staff for the building to be forcibly moved while Krix was locked in a cage.

I’m writing this submission to the archive having had the benefit of observing five of my successor’s administrations. The presidency is an office of grandeur, but also an office that requires extensive commitment and dedication. I had both the benefit and the burden of building the foundations of the government in my capacity as President, shaping the office and the wider government as it stands today. While President, I enjoyed many freedoms of discretion which my successors haven’t since had - decisions were hard and fast - for better, and for worse.

My Presidency was one that pre-dated the democratic process. My greatest challenge in office was not winning an election, rather choosing the right time to implement them. It was an issue that the administration wrestled with, often butting heads with political leaders as to when and how elections would come about, however, we got there in the end. While I had every intention of Congressional elections, Presidential elections did not cross my mind as a possibility. I was sceptical at first, however I haven’t regretted it for a day since.

It was a scary prospect handing over the reigns to a player-elected individual for the first time. To be totally honest, I didn’t expect it to last - we had an under-developed government which was absent of many of the complexities and niches that we see in government today. The concept of an entirely player-run government with the power that it wielded was a landmark development in the Minecraft sphere, perhaps the first of it’s kind on this scale.

After months of lobbying, the Congress had convinced me that the time for an elected President had come. We started with an elected Vice-President mid year, with a full constitutional re-write in September, ahead of the October election. This was, and still remains, the biggest development in our political story. The establishment of a player-run Senate and an elected Presidential office has been a key contributor to the success of the nation. We pioneered, and we still continue to pioneer today. King Endeavour - No. Emperor Endeavour - No. Owner Endeavour - Yes. We explored many different systems before we settled on the system that you see today.

The term ‘democracy’ is in our name. With that, the ownership had to be a separate function to Government. The relationship the ownership have with Government was codified in our Constitution and has remained largely untouched to this day.

President is a tough gig. These individuals have a monumental role in ensuring the proper functioning of Government. With such role, they carry a significant amount of responsibility. My administration does not even compare to the complexities that these office holders have had to manage. For that, and for all that they do, I take my hat off to them. Whether you like them or not, whether you agree with them or not, these individuals run to make the nation a better place. They volunteer their time, their passion, and their dedication to the server. For this, we are indebted to them.

Attaining Presidential office is no easy feat, it takes exceptional individuals to get there.

On the 12th of February, RylandW and Sleepii won the Mayoral election against [[AnimeInc]] and running mate [[KattoC324]], with both candidates leaving the first round with 21 votes each, and the Ryland/Sleepii ticket narrowly eking out a victory with 24 votes to 22 in the final round.

Four days after their victory, runners-up AnimeInc and KattoC324 filed a lawsuit with the [[Supreme Court]] against The Commonwealth of Redmont, alleging that the Department of State allowed Ryland and Sleepii to run for the election illegally.<ref name="lawsuit">https://www.democracycraft.net/threads/animeinc-kattoc324-v-the-commonwealth-of-redmont-2025-scr-5.24835/#post-96963</ref> Their claim was that Sleepii did not meet the requirements to run for Deputy Mayor of Aventura; therefore the Mayorship should be granted in AnimeInc's favour.<ref name="lawsuit"/>

On the 1st of March, 2025, Sleepii announced their candidacy for the House of Representatives,<ref>https://www.democracycraft.net/threads/house-of-representatives-election-march-2025.24999/#post-97825</ref> running under the banner of the WPR, stating that they were running for "the people, the workers, and the lesser heard".<ref name="Discord AD">https://discord.com/channels/673612908868927498/759528352825868338/1348559744683475006</ref> Their policies aligned with those of the WPR, including the separation of big businesses from Government, increasing union power, and the ownership by the workers of the land they work.<ref name="Discord AD"/>
